Job Description

This role is a fixed term position in response to increased demand within our high priority work programmes. We are surging in people and resources in response to these priorities.
Mō tēnei tūrangi mahi | About this role
You will provide strategic advice and support to the Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement activities undertaken by the Waste Operations team, as well as important input on the development of waste policy within the wider Resource Efficiency Business Unit from a regulatory and operational perspective.
Your experience in taking a strategic view of the entire regulatory process from design through to implementation and reform, applying judgement to complex issues in conditions involving considerable uncertainty and ambiguity will be vital to success in the role. You will have the ability to consider, recommend or apply a range of tools, methods and approaches to varying circumstances for best effect and assess, through monitoring and evaluation, the impact of regulation.
The role is primarily focused on the Waste Minimisation Act 2008, but you will be comfortable interacting with a range of legislation to inform your work.

We are open to considering transferrable skills. It may be that you have a background in compliance, investigation or have been practising law and are seeking a change of scenery and opportunity to utilise your background for a meaningful environmental purpose.

- an academic qualification in policy, audit, investigation, law, regulation, natural resource management or environmental compliance
- excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- knowledge of, and experience working with, legislation in a regulatory environment
- demonstrated experience in providing advice for decision-makers
- a resilient, proactive and tenacious approach
- the ability to work comfortably in an environment of ambiguity
- strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels
- effective written and verbal communication skills
- sound understanding of the machinery of government
- have commitment to developing your cultural capability and capacity in te ao Māori
- an ability to apply Māori worldviews in a way that makes a meaningful difference to advice, partnerships, and relationships with others.
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $110,501 to $134,128 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
