As part of a broader plan to reduce the increasing amount of rubbish ending up in New Zealand's landfills, the Government invests in recycling infrastructure projects through revenue raised through the waste levy to reduce waste.
We work directly with industry, business and councils to support projects that work to end our take, make, use and dispose culture and help New Zealand utilise resources more efficiently.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
We are looking for an Investment Manager to join our team and help drive the waste investments team's work programme across the Waste Minimisation Fund, Contaminated Sites & Vulnerable Landfills Fund, and Emergency Waste funding.
This Investment Manager role sits withing the Waste Investments team in the Partnerships, Investments and Enablement group. You will play a critical role in contributing to the Ministry for the Environment (MfE) investment management of new waste infrastructure.
The Waste Investment teams are responsible for management and administration across the full funding and investment life cycle. The Investment Manager role will implement policy direction through assessing and managing projects funded by the national waste levy, aimed at accelerating progress towards waste minimisation and reducing environmental harm.
The core focus of the role is the development, assessment, and management of impactful waste minimisation projects, and managing key internal and external relationships. Depending on the needs of the team, and the priorities of the government, you may also become involved in other areas of waste investment and related policy work.

This role would suit Investment Managers who have:
- Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills across diverse groups
- Experience scoping and managing complex investment projects
- A high levels of critical thinking, with an analysis and a solution focused approach to problem solving
- Demonstrated judgement and commercial acumen when assessing and recommending funding for new projects or milestone payments
- Knowledge of the waste sector and/or infrastructure development
- A positive approach evidenced by working well as part of a team
- Commitment to developing your cultural capability and capacity in te ao Māori
- Understanding and experience with machinery of government processes, systems and tools
- An ability to set priorities and to achieve deadlines and project and programme outputs.
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $80,712 to $97,721 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
