We're building a smarter, more connected investment system—one which ensures public funds deliver meaningful environmental outcomes. As a Senior Advisor, you'll be at the heart of this transformation, supporting the re-establishment of governance to ensure robust and transparent investment decisions are made.
This role is a fixed term position in response to increased demand within our high priority work programmes. We are surging in people and resources in response to these priorities.
Mō te tūnga | About the role
MfE administers over $400 million in funding across multiple investments that reduce environmental harm or increase environmental benefits, including waste minimisation, improving water quality, capability development, managing emergency waste and remediation of contaminated sites.
Reporting to the Manager – Investment Strategy, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping how the Ministry allocates, manages, and reports on its environmental investments. You'll bring a strategic lens to governance, fund design and performance, embedding robust process to support better decision-making.
The role supports a key deliverable under our Strategic Framework which will establish and maintain rigorous decision-making and oversight over the suite of investments as a whole. This will ensure transparency, integrity, delivery and alignment in investment decision-making.

Our ideal candidate will be:
- Experiencedestablishing and maintaining clear, transparent processes for approving, prioritising, and sequencing investment decisions.
- Able to review how funds are allocated across the Ministry's investment portfolio to ensure alignment with strategic intent and value for money.
- Experienced supportingregular reporting on investment decisions, funding status, and governance outcomes to maintain integrity and stakeholder confidence.
- committed to being a team player in a collaborative environment
- strong relationship management skills, quickly building trust
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- experience delivering quality work in a fast-paced environment
- ability to think creatively to achieve results and produce credible advice on complex technical matters

Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $110,501 to $134,128 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
