Job Description

• Fixed Term / Secondment until 30 June 2026 

We're building a smarter, more connected investment system—one which ensures public funds deliver meaningful environmental outcomes. As a Senior Advisor, you'll be at the heart of this transformation, supporting the establishment of an investment framework, ensuring a cohesive and structured approach to fund design and providing input into the wider strategic operations of MfE's investments.

This role is a fixed term position in response to increased demand within our high priority work programmes. We are surging in people and resources in response to these priorities.

Mō te tūranga mahi | About the role   

MfE administers over $400 million in funding across multiple investments that reduce environmental harm or increase environmental benefits, including waste minimisation, improving water quality, capability development, managing emergency waste and remediation of contaminated sites.

Reporting to the Manager – Investment Strategy, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping how the Ministry allocates, manages, and reports on its environmental investments. You'll bring a strategic lens to our strategy and investment framework embedding robust process to support better decision-making. You'll play a key role in designing and maintaining a high level investment framework which guides decision making and ensure policy-to-practice alignment for operational design which reflects policy intent and supports consistent, effective delivery across investment activities.

The role supports a key deliverable under our Strategic Framework which will establish and maintain rigorous decision-making and oversight over the suite of investments as a whole. This will ensure transparency, integrity, delivery and alignment in investment decision-making.

• Support the design and development of an Investment Strategy
• Lead the development of an investment framework
• Ensure operational design reflects policy intent and supports consistent, effective delivery across investment activities.
• Design and maintain operational frameworks that translate strategic policy into practical, implementable investment activities.
• Advising on investment strategy, fund design, and performance monitoring to ensure alignment with Treasury and public finance best practice.
• Collaborating across business groups and agencies to embed consistent, effective investment approaches.
• Driving innovation in how we understand and communicate investment returns, including non-market and environmental benefits.

Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range  

Salary range for this role is $110,501 to $134,128 pa.  Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
