Mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
We are looking for an experienced Advisor to join the Science Assurance and Investment team.
The Science Assurance and Investment team is responsible for ensuring the Ministry is investing in the right science, and that our science meets agreed quality standards. This includes looking across the science system to influence reforms, and ensuring the Ministry is connected and can leverage other science investment.
The team has a variety of work programmes, so depending on need, your role could contribute to:
- Setting the long-term approach to MfE's Data, Science and Evidence Investment
- Leading, or contributing to, the planning, procurement and management of strategic data, science and evidence investments
- Collaborating with other agencies (e.g. MPI, DOC, CRI's, Science NZ, MBIE, PCE) to identify priorities and leverage external science investment
- Taking a targeted approach to development and implementation of relevant internal science strategies and processes
- Providing secretariat support to Ministry external science or evidence panels
- Providing science assurance and risk management to policy through peer review, quality standards, and process support.

Our ideal candidate will bring:
- general or technical environmental science background, including mātauranga Māori, (please highlight any specialisms you have in your application)
- ability to structure arguments and to analyse and pull together information to provide useful insights
- strong organisation and planning skills and an eye for detail
- an agile approach and comfort with ambiguity
- ability to manage competing deadlines and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
- a strong delivery focus and are happy to roll up your sleeves to achieve your mahi
- strong written and verbal communication skills
- collaborative approach, but able to work independently
- commitment to further developing your cultural capability in te ao Māori.
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $79,598 to $96,372 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
