Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
The Senior Policy Advisor will be part of the Market Assurance and Operations team, primarily supporting the Market Governance policy project and delivery of a Climate Change Response Amendment (CCRA) Bill.
The Market Governance policy project aims to improve operation of the New Zealand emissions unit (NZU) market. The CCRA Bill will include Market Governance and a collection of other amendments relating to the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). The work will include policy analysis, consultation and engagement, advice to Ministers, and the process of working with the Parliamentary Counsel Office to draft and progress legislation through Parliament.
You will work in collaboration with other members of the team who are responsible for an ETS assurance and operations function. This work includes ETS operations, governance and risk management, along with delivery of market insights.

- Demonstrate experience of leading aspects of core/key policy advice, processes and deliverables, including public consultation and the legislative process
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Clear and succinct written and oral communication
- Relationship management skills and the ability to partner with others to deliver
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Ideally, knowledge of the ETS and the NZU market
- An understanding of Te tiriti, the Crown's obligations under te tiriti, and MfE's role as a treaty partner
- Knowledge of Machinery of Government and how to ‘get things done'.
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $108,976 to $132,277 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
