Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
This team leads policy analysis and advice to the Government on international climate mitigation matters, including the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
This includes policy advice and analysis relating to New Zealand's Nationally Determined Contributions and the broader international climate mitigation landscape:
- Policy analysis and advice to set and implement NDCs
- Policy analysis and advice on international climate cooperation
- Leading international negotiations to support NZs climate policy objectives, including formal UNFCCC negotiations
- Contributing to international processes across multilateral fora, and NZ's wider influence on climate issues
- Leading international carbon markets and climate mitigation
- Forming and maintaining relationships with international organisations, carbon project actors, other countries, domestic stakeholders and the private sector
- Supporting international bilateral engagements
The Senior Advisor is expected to deliver of high-quality, accurate, analytical assessments and advice to support the delivery of the Ministry's and Government's climate objectives. The successful candidate will lead, working within a team on the development and delivery of high-quality policy within a complex and challenging environment, often on new, contentious, sensitive or complex issues.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
Substantial experience leading the development of end to end complex policy within the public sector including inter-governmental processes.
Substantial experience using a range of analytical frameworks, including developing new frameworks.
Demonstrated understanding of the Machinery of Government.
A strong understanding of the Paris Agreement and how it has informed the Climate Change Response Act (Zero Carbon Amendment).
Experience representing New Zealand internationally, including experience in international negotiations.
An understanding of, or experience in, international carbon markets, including Article 6.
Willing to travel and work outside of regular business hours.
Robust domestic and international networks are an asset.
Experience in trade, economics, commercial contracts and procurement are an asset.
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $105,802 to $128,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
